Be a Star Campaign

Math at a History Museum?

NTHC calculates needs and pushes forward

The North Texas History Center is not alone in its encounter with financial difficulties this year. Current economic conditions have made life difficult for many non-profits across the nation.  What sets the NTHC apart are the many different angles it is taking to achieve financial stability. From a Be a Star—Save our History campaign to sponsorship packages and a new business plan, the NTHC is pushing hard to find funding.

“We are very excited about our Be a Star—Save our History campaign,” said Vicki Day, Ex. Director of NTHC, “it gives people a chance to contribute to local history in an easy and fun manner. Too often people assume that small donations don’t matter, but they do! If everyone in Collin County gave just one dollar to us, we’d be able to maintain operations for three years.”

The NTHC also reports that efforts are underway to find individuals and businesses that would like to partner with them on several upcoming projects. “We are currently laying the groundwork for three major initiatives: the TeacherTube partnership, a Vintage Camp Show fundraiser, and our fourth-quarter exhibit that focuses on African-American history and its importance to the area,” stated Day. “Each of these projects helps us with our long-term goal of being more visible and more important to the community.”

Governmental funding was discontinued as of January 1, 2010, leaving History Center staff working diligently to find alternative funding sources. Admissions, retail sales, and private donations have provided some funding, but additional funds are needed to maintain current operations.  To make a donation visit the NTHC at 300 E. Virginia in historic downtown McKinney or donate online at www.northtexashistorycenter.org.
